After more tha four decades of involvement, in nearly every aspect of leading, and planning, from identifying, and qualifying potential leaders, to training, developing and consulting to over a thousand, actual, as well as potential ones, and serving in many leadership positions, for a variety of organizations and groups, both in the not – for – profit, as well as corporate worlds, I have learned, and believe strongly, quality leadership is never accidental, and only those, ready, willing, and able, to create a meaningful, relevant, sustainable, strategic and action PLAN, deserve to be considered, as a real leader! With that in mind, this article will attempt, to briefly, consider, identify, review, and discuss, using the mnemonic approach, what this means, and represents, and why it matters.
1. Perceive; perceptions; priorities; planning; procedure; process: Whatever the mind of man, can perceive, and conceive of, we can effectively achieve, goes the age – old, adage! A true leader should be judged on the level of his perceptions, and where these priorities, direct him, in a relevant, sustainable manner! For decades, I have taught thousands, the essentials of quality, meaningful, leadership planning, and the associated process, and procedure, needed, and necessary, to move forward, in the most focused way!
2. Listen; learn; leading; lessons: If you hope to become a quality leader, you must become the finest, effective listener, in order to proceed, with the utmost degree of genuine empathy! When one focuses, and learns, from every conversation, and experience, he begins to develop, the single – most, important, essential of real leading. True leaders learn these lessons, well!
3. Attitude; aptitude; attention; actions; articulate: Many aspects of leading can be taught, but, only when someone proceeds, with the consistent dedication, to proceeding, with a positive, can – do, attitude! The best attitude, and the relevant, developed, aptitude, skill – set, and pay keen attention, to the best path, forward! When someone is ready, willing, and able, to clearly, articulate his solutions, and proceeds, with a strategic plan, and takes relevant actions, for the best interests of the group, and stakeholders!
4. Needs; nerves; nuances: When a potential leader, really cares, he learns the true needs, of his organization, and constituents, and plans, in a way, which addresses these specific nuances! Therefore, only when someone has the nerve, to expand his personal comfort zone, rather than simply seeking the safety of proceeding, with the same – old, same – old, does he deserve to be considered, as a real leader!
Leadership planning, and perceiving and conceiving of, creating, developing, and implementing the finest strategic, and action PLAN, are essential components of becoming the finest, most relevant, sustainable leader! Are you, up to the task?
