The most successful home business owners all share a multitude of character qualities but there is one that is consistent among all of them-they are all students of personal development.
It is always startling to me when I meet someone who is trying to become successful in their home business and yet they refuse to see the need to develop themselves. Sadly, these are the types of people I see who usually do not succeed.
Whatever you do-don’t do the same thing!
Personal development is the best and most prosperous path. Not only does it lead to your own financial success, it keeps you humble and ensures that you will always have a teachable heart.
It is simple-people want to follow leaders. People want to follow people who have achieved the success and the goals that they themselves are looking for. It is simply part of our human nature.
Success begins within each of us. When we commit to improving our self we will then attract the very people we are becoming-leaders!
Leaders are gifted at inspiring others to look at what their future could hold and then challenging them to take hold of that dream and make it a reality.
When we live in self doubt or uninformed over-confidence we become the very thing that prevents or limits our success. We must be willing to humble ourselves and put ourselves in a “student” mindset in order to move forward to success. If we want our home business to improve, we must improve ourselves first. If we want things within our home business to change, we must change ourselves first. If we want more out of life, we have to become more.
Becoming a leader does not happen automatically. We must be willing to continue working on and developing our skill sets. In committing to this we will become more confident, better presenters, better listeners, better communicators and people will naturally want to follow us.
As we work on our personal development it becomes easier to connect with other people and suddenly our recruiting numbers start increasing!
People will start coming to you and asking you about your home business and what it is that you are doing that has made you so successful.
Practical Ways To Work On Personal Development
Consistency is key here. We must be willing to commit a certain amount of time each day, each week, each month on our own personal growth and development to become the person others want to follow.
Learn from your top industry leaders and study what they have done to become successful in this way.
Running a home business requires daily activities that will help our personal development. Prospecting, connecting with others, coaching people and 3-way calls are all part of our daily activity that stretches and grows our character.
There are other activities that would benefit us beyond simply completing our daily tasks. Things like:
- Attending training calls by top leaders
- Attending certain seminars and meetings
- Working with a personal mentor or coach to learn how to use tools and systems to keep your follow-up on track
- Reading appropriate books
- Listening to CD’s from top industry leaders and trainings
Books are excellent resources to you. Consider the following:
- “Building Your Network Marketing Business” by Jim Rohn (audio CD)
- “The Greatest Networker in the World” by John Milton Fogg (book)
- “The Purple Cow” by Seth Godin (book)
- “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill (book)
- “Better Than Good” by Zig Ziglar
Always take the time to seek advice from your upline, coach or mentor. Talk to them and find out what they have done to improve themselves and then follow their example on how they have used tools and systems to help their home businesses succeed.
Make a commitment to work on your own personal development for at least 20 minutes each and every day. Imagine the growth and improvement you will see in yourself after 6 months? What about in a year from now? Your team and your prospects will see the change in you, too, and will want to join you!
